SHAMIDA ETHIOPIA STRATEGIC EXPANSION PROPOSAL

Zero Emission Global Pioneer Project

Earthly Eden is a zero emission village and a global pioneer project, located in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa.

Its goal is to be an eco-friendly and fully self-sustaining green area that is home to a holistic eco-system made of different components, ranging from purpose built children homes to social enterprises including a medical clinic, training facilities and cafés.

Zero Emission Defined

Zero Emission refers to an engine, motor, process, or other energy source, that emits no waste products that pollute the environment or disrupt the climate.

Who We Are

Re-Set Hiwot

A Social Enterprise that trains vulnerable women, specifically single mothers, in leadership, life-skills and sewing.

Shamida Ethiopia

Shamida Ethiopia is a non-profit NGO that works in partnership to provide holistic care, support and development programs to vulnerable women and children. Through care and capacity building, a socially stable and empowered community is created.

Both organizations are passionate about education and believe that education is the key to ending poverty.

Our Objectives

Social

Support the wider community.

Promote inclusivity ("medemer") including ethnicity, age, social status, disability, or religion.

Provide training and capacity building to empower individuals.

Economic

Financial self-sustainability for a variety of non-profit organizations and social enterprises.

Provide free training to individuals with economic constraints.

Environmental

Zero carbon village.

Self sustainable.

Using recycled materials for construction.

The Village

Staff accommodation
Workshop and shops for handmade crafts

Preliminary Design for Guesthouses

Training Facility

The training facility is intended for youth and disadvantaged/excluded groups, in the local community and greater Ethiopia, who have little access programs due to ethnic conflict or financial constraints.

Training and capacity building will focus on skills as sewing and the production of reusable menstrual kits for distribution through Addis Ababa and Ethiopia.

Green Areas & Self Sustainability

Hiwot and Shamida envision the village as a green space and a self-sustaining village.

We will produce permaculture areas, vertical and rooftop agriculture to allow for training areas and provide sustainable, nutritious food for the village.

Funding

We have pledged funds of $1,000,000 USD and counting.

Once a plot of land has been assigned to this project, many different stakeholders and donors are willing to invest and donate to see this global pioneer project to completion.

Development Phases

Phase One:

  1. Children’s home

  2. Training centre

  3. Staff accommodation

  4. Café

  5. Guesthouse

Benefactors

We believe the number of benefactors is immeasurable as it will help people from different walks of life, including:

  • Orphans and vulnerable children

  • Disabled individuals/Individuals with disabilities

  • Unemployed men and women

  • Addressing ethnic and religious conflict (Internally displaced people)

This is just to name a few of those who will benefit from this zero-carbon village (benefiting the environment as well).

The benefits - both short and long term - of this zero-carbon village are enormous! Both socially, economically and environmentally.

Not only will it provide a safe nurturing haven for all who come here, where inclusion and peace are both promoted and practiced on a daily basis, it will create and sustain a pioneering model of living and being together that will influence all of us for generations to come.
